Set up
These puzzles reinforce adding and number bonds in a fun way, and they are easy to make. Pick a target number such as 10. Take a blank 3 by 3 or 4 by 4 board and fill it with pairs or triplets that add up to the target number– the numbers in a group must border each other. If you use the target number in the board (together with 0), that will give your students a simple place to start.
Example
Here are two boards that have a target sum of 10.

Challenge
Finds groups of two or three numbers that share a side and add up to the target sum. When finished, the groups must exactly fill the board.
Discussion and Tips
Use tokens if you want to be able to reuse the boards. You can also laminate the boards and have your students use erasable white board markers.
Variations
You may pick any target number. However, number bonds for 10 are particularly useful to practice. You can have your students make these for each other
